Since the last “Wilde about Blues” sale in 2006, cattle numbers at Ridge Dean have steadily increased, so with winter housing stretched to the limit and diversification in to other areas, the Ridge Dean team will be holding their fifth Wilde about Blues on June 11th at Borderway Mart, Carlisle
Any follower of the Ridge Dean genetics will know that longevity, natural calving and strong cow families are the key elements of this successful herd. These, coupled with size, confirmation and mobility are why this herd has earned the Premier Breeder of the Year title no less than 10 times.
Even after 28 years spent working with British Blue cattle, enthusiasm for the breed remains at an all time high. The genetics included in this sale go to back to some of the finest cows ever bred at Ridge Dean including the great Ridge Dean Jessie, Navette, Kosher and Valentine. Through selective breeding and embryo transfer, prospective buyers will be able to choose from a wide selection of animals closely related to these bloodlines.
These cattle have not been pushed for sale and due to the late spring, they are not as fit as they usually are for this time of the year.
Previous purchasers at the “Wilde about Blues” sales have come back time and time to invest in Ridge Dean genetics and we look forward to seeing even more of you at the sale on the 11th June.
Herd status
The herd has been Johne’s controlled since 1999. We routinely vaccinate for bluetongue (all calves, recipients and maiden heifers have been vet vaccinated), BVD and Lepto (all breeding heifers over the age of 14 months).
All our recipients are TB tested, as well as tested for Lepto, BVD and neospora and are kept in isolation until clear to enter the herd.
